Any truth seeker, that has ever made an attempt to rise above themselves, has been required to overcome an invisible yet intimate enemy.
The false self, or famously known as the Ego.
One of the classic pitfalls of early aspirants, is to immediately start rejecting and fighting with this false self.
Unaware of the fact, that this false identity, that we call ego, appears to exist only because of the attention and energy we lend to it.
So when we reject or resist, we’re actually giving it more energy.
As Eckhart Tolle has said, “Resistance to ego, is just more ego.”
Which is why, when you face internal challenges, like feeling inadequate, desperate, or unhappy, the usual approach is to resist these emotions.
However, it does not help, because resistance itself consumes a lot of your energy, and will drown you further.
The right approach then, is to simply accept that this is what you are experiencing in the moment, but that it does not define you.
When you attach no identity to the experience, the experience disappears.
In essence, you accept the ego, as a mere experience, without trying to do anything to make it go away.
This gives you an opportunity to be who you are. Timeless, blissful, and eternally free.
Next time you find yourself in the midst of dark thoughts or painful emotions, put this to practice, and soon you will be able to master the art of transcending the ego.
